This exceptional antique Eastern Anatolian tribal double saddlebag (khorjin) is a striking example of early 20th-century nomadic weaving, executed in the intricate sumakh technique and preserved in unusually fine condition. The piece displays a bold and highly decorative arrangement of horizontal patterned bands surrounding large octagonal medallions, each framed by stylized leaf, feather, and hooked motifs characteristic of the tribal weaving traditions of Eastern Turkey.

The color palette is particularly attractive, featuring rich madder reds, aubergine purples, soft gray-lavender tones, olive greens, saffron yellows, ivory, and deep indigo blues, all derived from natural dyes that have mellowed beautifully with age. The interior retains its original striped flatwoven panels in vibrant crimson and purple tones, while the braided closures, seams, and structural elements remain largely intact, adding greatly to its authenticity and collector appeal.

What makes this saddlebag especially desirable is its artistic individuality and rarity. The large octagonal medallions, unusual geometric vocabulary, and broad decorative bands create a powerful visual impact unlike the more commonly encountered Anatolian or Persian tribal bags. The drawing is highly personal and non-commercial in character, reflecting the creativity of the nomadic weaver rather than workshop production. The preservation of the complete double-bag format, combined with its vibrant colors and excellent condition, makes it an increasingly difficult type of tribal textile to acquire.

This is a museum-worthy tribal weaving that bridges Anatolian, Caucasian, and Persian design influences while retaining a distinctly nomadic identity. Pieces of this quality and completeness are highly sought after by collectors of antique tribal rugs, bags, and ethnographic textiles.

Condition: Excellent, remarkably complete for its age
