Antique handmade Art Deco Chinese natural dyed wool carpet, Signed, c-1920, 9' x 11'8", breathtaking gold background color with reddish purple border color. This carpet is in excellent condition and has been professionally cleaned.
yellow, a royal color that no ordinary people were allowed to use ... The style is very Manchurian, the invaders that created the last Dynasty in China, so it reflects the over saturated color palette they preferred, which is in contrast to the Han Chinese style that is prevalent in black & white Shanshui Painting.
This wonderful Art Deco carpet was made in China, circa 1910s or 1920s. Walter Nichols was great American rug producer (the Art Deco rugs which he did not originate them) in Tientsin. The rugs made of wool with bold vibrant colors and the pattern are pictorial scenes and trees, birds, clouds, mountains, dragons, butterfly and flowers. The production of Art Deco rugs started from 1910s-1950s and mostly with western influence.
